Ladies and Gentlemen
Good morning, it is a pleasure for me to be here at the official commissioning of this three-unit classroom block which will directly benefit over 266 pupils from Adzintem community Basic School.
We are extremely excited about this project because we know that this facility has the potential to boost the standards of education in Adzintem and its surrounding communities.
Today, we stand before a new edifice, one which takes our minds off the once dilapidated building that served as the principal learning institution in this community. To me, though this is a important contribution to education and the future of our kids, what was here before this building is a stark reminder that we need to invest more in the educational sector.
The importance of education be it formal or informal cannot be over emphasized. Education is fundamental to the development and growth of this community and country. The impact of education on individuals and the community is so enormous it cannot be ignored. Education shapes attitudes, helps people to realise their talent and potential and thus put them in a better position to make meaningful contributions towards the development of their family and community.
Having in mind how education can change the fortunes of Adzintem, the MTN Ghana Foundation Board approved the construction of the three-unit classroom block at total cost of GHc394,379.27 to enhance teaching and learning in the community. The classroom block is adequately complemented with the following;
- An office for the Head Teacher
- A store room;
- Washroom for the pupils
It is the hope of the MTN Ghana Foundation that, the provision of this facility will ease congestion in the classroom, enhance efficient contact hours between teachers and students as well as provide the opportunity for more pupils to be enrolled in the school.
At MTN, we believe that education is an enabler of a bright future. It is for this reason that education is one of the primary focus of the MTN Ghana Foundation. Since the inception of the Foundation in November 2007, MTN Ghana Foundation has implemented over 150 projects in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment at the total cost of over USD 15 million. These projects have impacted over four million people in Ghana.
We pledge our commitment to continue to impact lives positively as well as provide tailor made solutions that meet the needs of our communities.
I would like to express our profound gratitude to the school authorities, for their warm welcome and co-operation during the construction of the project. I will also like to express our gratitude to the contractor for completing the project within the stipulated time.
As we hand over the project, I would like to encourage the authorities, students and all beneficiaries of this facility to adopt a maintenance culture to preserve the facility for future generations.
