MTN, GFA Working on E-Ticketing And Digital Payment At Match Centers

It is not debatable that MTN Mobile money has been a game changer in the financial market ever since its introduction in 2009 and has provided comfort and convenience to many in financial transactions in the country.

Many sectors have, and continue to benefit from MTN Mobile money, and the Ghana football industry is the new sector set to benefit from Mobile money innovations.

According to El Hini, Head of Mobile Money at MTN, plans were far advance to introduce e-ticketing and digital payments at the gate before the novel covid-19 let to the halt of the season. Mr Hini made this revelation during a video conferencing seminar with bloggers on Mobile money operations by MTN. The

” It [e-ticketing and digital payment] is something we had collaborated with the Ghana Football Association to enroll in the truncated season with the FA Cup matches before the advent of the novel corona virus pandemic. We are still planning with FA to roll it out in subsequent seasons”, Mr Hini asserted.

Over the past years, industry players and stakeholders have called for an innovation that can allow football fans to purchase tickets ahead of time to avoid queuing and time wasting on match days. This innovation by the GFA and MTN will afford fans the opportunity to buy tickets using mobile money ahead of time to bring relief to football supporters who usually go through near-hell experience to get tickets on match days.

It is however, not known how MTN and the GFA will go about this, especially when a good number of people in the industry are either not digitally inclined or comfortable doing e-transactions.

MTN is confident of a breakthrough and get many to embrace this change just as people have come to accept mobile money even though it was difficult for many to embrace at the initial stages.
